So today I walked from where we live in Pest (in the theatre district which is in one end of the city) and walked to the other side of Pest where I walked along a street called Vaci it's the big long street where a lot of tourists go to eat & shop. It has all the big chain stores we have at home. Guess, H&M etc... I didn't find the shopping very good though. Everything in the big shops is imported so very pricey and there isnt much "local" stuff to buy either. I'm finding it hard to spend money! I am sure Ben is relieved.
So today I also went for a river boat cruise. It went up one side and back on the other talking about the local history, buildings & people. It was a beautiful sunny day of 23 so perfect for a boat ride!
I also tried Hungarian Goulash today. I like soup so I thought it was good. It's a meaty soup with little bits of pasta, and root vegetables and paprika base broth. It made for a good lunch.
Oh and I forgot to mention the other day that I tried Palinka. It's like the national liqueur. At the restaurant Ben took me to on Sunday night they gave us one each on the house. I had the plum flavoured one. It was very strong & sweet. I would not order by choice, but it wasn't bad.
I walked a long time today and a long way, my feet are a bit sore and legs a bit stiff. The city is very pedestrian friendly and all the buildings are interesting & lovely so generally I don't mind the walking. And it's a good thing since the public transportation is not at all stroller friendly.
The number of people who speak English here surprised me. Most restaurants have English menus and quite a few people speak English very well. And even those who don't are very friendly and happy to go find someone who can speak English to help you.
I hope tomorrow to do a bus tour of the city. One of those hop on hop off ones, I bought my ticket today when I purchased the river cruise. The person assured me I could take the stroller.... but I am a bit concerned so fingers crossed its not a problem.
I also saw that you can take tours of the opera house too, and they include a mini performance. I think that would be good but again issues with the stroller and I would maybe like to go to the Terror Museum, it seems like they are wheelchair accessible so I think it's okay to take the stroller? It's about the history of the different cruel occupations/rulers the country has had to endure anyways it's supposed to be good and very interesting and me enjoying history as I do....
And I just heard from Laarni (Demetris wife ) that St Stephens Basilica is amazing. She and her kids went there today. But she warned me not to take the stroller...
Evelyn is so big now it would be tough to do the baby carrier for the walk there, tour and walk back.... so we'll have to see.... I know Ben wants to go and see it but with this weekend being Easter I am not sure it's a good time to visit as a tourist.
Apparently tomorrow is the day some cleaning company comes and does the apartment and changes the towels etc... Ben has no idea what time they come at so this could be interesting..... They only come once a week, I guess they are employed by the owner of the apartment. The complex seems to be full of international guests who are here short term for various work reasons of one another.
Okay I have to give Evelyn a bath and ready for bed. Hopes she sleeps tonight so tomorrow can be another good day of sightseeing.
