I can't sleep so I might as well write.
Arrived in London at 11am Saturday June 11th. Ben picked us up from the airport.
The flight was uneventful, Evelyn was a perfect baby again :)
Today Sunday was spent sleeping all day by me and generally avoiding the purpose of this trip.
Ben took care of Evelyn. fed her, bathed her and played.
I hope we (as in Evelyn and I) do a little sightseeing and have some fun while we are here. I have a few things planned while Ben will be busy working.
For Evelyn
The purpose of this journey this time is a very sad one.
Ben has chosen to end our marriage.
Evelyn I can not explain his reasons. They are his alone. When you are bigger you can ask him. He promised me he would answer all your questions. Maybe by then he will actually be able to give you a better explanation then what I have received.
I loved being married to your dad and this decision of his has made me very sad. I am so thankful you are little enough to not truly see and understand my pain.
Although being a single mom was not a dream of mine having you a daughter was certainly always the biggest dream I had. I never wanted anything more than to have a daughter and be a mom.
I love you more than anything in this world. I hope one day when you read this blog to see what amazing things we did together and look back at the photos and see how I documented this year since your birth so you could relive it.
I loved this year since you were born. I loved traveling with you and you were such a good baby.
It's been a hard year, one of the most difficult I have encountered and is about to be even more challenging.
But your smile is the prettiest one there is and your giggles make me so happy.
Despite everything never doubt how much I love you. Everything I do is for you or because of you.
Love you Baby
When I started this blog Ben was working in London, England on Martin Scorsese's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret". Which finished filming Jan 2011. With a mere 5 days at home he then started a movie called "47 Ronin". Which is currently shooting in Budapest until May when they move to the studio in England. This blog is mostly about us following Ben on his work adventures while trying to keep our little family together as much as possible.

Saturday & Easter Sunday
So Saturday we went on a hop on hop off bus tour of the city. Which I was quite enjoying and hearing about the history of the city etc... Evelyn was being quite good but Ben was hating every minute of it. So 2/3 of the way through we got off at the Citadella on the Buda side and walked around the old fort and enjoyed the view.
We had lunch up there on a patio and then instead of taking the bus anymore we walked ALL the way the down the mountain to the river and walked along the river on the Buda side and then walked across the Chain Bridge and all the way home.
Then we went out for dinner with a bunch of people Ben works with. Some of them from England I knew from when they worked on Hugo together. It was an early night to bed though I was exhausted.
Sunday we went to brunch with Demetri, his wife and kids which was good. Then we came home for a little nap and got ready for our afternoon out to the baths! We headed out at about 2:30 to the Szechenyi Bath which is near Hero Square and the zoo, and a few museums5. We walked there which took about 45 mins. Seriously all this walking has taken off those last couple of lbs that were clinging on from winter.....
The baths were amazing, Evelyn showed off what a good little swimmer she is and I had a great time enjoying all the pools and the water jets. And I got a massage, which was really lovely after sleeping in these beds all week. Ben took Evelyn home early I stayed later to really soak it all in.
I came home and then we got ready for dinner we out to a cute little place Ben likes and had a dinner of tapas which was very good and in a nice quiet place. Came home and gave miss Evelyn a bath and then we all went to bed around 11 or so.
Evelyn just squawked once for a bottle around 4am and went right back to sleep until 8:30am. Of course it would happen that the 2 days just before leaving Budapest we are FINALLY adjusted to the time zone and not feeling like total shit anymore! Oh gawd I just dread the week at home and trying to change her back......
So we never did make it to the Opera House yet..... we are going to try for today! Fingers crossed..... And I was not able to go to the Terror Museum. It's closed today and I just didn't get round to it :( I could have easily spent another week here. Not a whole lot longer but another week yes. If I didn't have Evelyn with me, then I could have gone and seen everything but that's okay traveling with a baby is not as carefree and certainly anything but quick.
to
So this is my last day. I leave on a plane from Budapest at some horrible hour like 6:30am to Frankfurt.
It's going to be very difficult to say goodbye to Ben. Things for England are a bit up in air again. And I do not know when we will see each other again. Lots of tears today.

Good Friday
And it was a good Friday. After Ben returned from taking Evelyn for a walk to the island park where she ate dandelions and picked grass we went out and found a nice patio for lunch.
Then we walked over to the Opera House for a tour & mini performance at 4pm. Only to find out the 4pm tour that day was canceled because the actual opera they were showing last night was very long and was starting at 5pm.
So we went over to St Stephens Basilica instead and climbed all the way up to the top of the round dome to see a fantastic 360 view of the whole city. We explored the church and saw the relic St. Stephens hand which is from 1060'ish... they have xrays on display and lots of cool info about the hand. Anyways the church was really pretty, it's a Roman Catholic church that was built in the mid 1800's.
Then we went to a patio for a couple drinks and just to enjoy the warm sunny day.
Then we walked back to the apartment for a little nap, and then we went to a steak house for dinner which was really good. And Evelyn was a very good baby the whole time even though we didn't come home until 11pm.
Today we are going to take a bus tour and attempt the Opera House tour again.

Wednesday & Thursday Catching up
So neither Evelyn or I have been sleeping that great. And Ben's schedule got all weird and one night he came home pretty late (we were sleeping) and the baby heard his voice and her eyes popped open and she wanted to play. To explain she sees Ben as her personal playmate more than a caregiver because he spends very little time actually looking after her and his time with her is usually spent making her laugh and entertaining her.
She does not like him in the bed though with me, she kicks him in the ribs and face while he's sleeping and spends most of her night trying to push him out of the bed. I can't help but laugh most nights.... I have lots of space :)
Because of the lack of sleep I have pretty much felt pretty beat and so my days consisted of walking around this part of town, window shopping, finding a patio for lunch and enjoying the afternoon reading my book, and returning late afternoon for a bit of nap and then we wake up and see if we can't find Laarni and her kids for some dinner. That's been my last 2 days.
I have discovered Hungarian Lemonade is the best in the whole world I have tasted so far! It's got fresh orange juice, mixed with lemon juice, some kind of sugar, and then put they put a whole bunch of cut up fresh lime, lemon and orange slices over crushed ice. It's very thirst quenching and I love it!
Another popular dish here is goose, especially goose liver in all kinds of ways... Ben has ordered it a few times and I have tried it and quite liked it. It's can range in flavour & texture to something like Fois Gras we get at home or something much more mild and creamy (which I prefer)
So this morning I was awake again at 5am as per usual and got Evelyn a bottle and settled back to sleep and of course I am unable to go back to sleep... so I lay there awake for almost 3 hours before finally dozing off. Ben got up with Evelyn and had the idea he would take her for a walk and give me some time on my own. Except that I had to help him pack her bag with all her things, and measure out her cereal for breakfast and help him with a variety of Evelyn things. So by the time they left and I tried to lay back down I wasn't tired anymore.... and instead I just lay there worrying and missing them. Ben is taking Evelyn to some island on the river you can get to by bridge and it has a big park on it.
So I got up took a long hot shower, had some breakfast, now I am having a cappuccino and updating the blog.
The plan is for Ben to come to the apt at 2pm and leave the stroller here in exchange for the baby carrier and go to a patio for some lunch and then tour the Opera House at 4pm.
It's 24 degrees here today and HOT! I am loving this weather and hope it follows me home to Toronto. At night it still gets cool to down around 10 degrees or so, but the daytime is lovely. The last few days have all been above 20 with full sun compared to when we arrived and last weekend when it was mid teens, cloudy and windy.
It's hard to believe I have been here just over a week because so far I have only spent one day with Ben. I hope this long weekend we can actually spend some time together reconnecting as well as some sightseeing.

a loooong walk & River Cruise
So today I walked from where we live in Pest (in the theatre district which is in one end of the city) and walked to the other side of Pest where I walked along a street called Vaci it's the big long street where a lot of tourists go to eat & shop. It has all the big chain stores we have at home. Guess, H&M etc... I didn't find the shopping very good though. Everything in the big shops is imported so very pricey and there isnt much "local" stuff to buy either. I'm finding it hard to spend money! I am sure Ben is relieved.
So today I also went for a river boat cruise. It went up one side and back on the other talking about the local history, buildings & people. It was a beautiful sunny day of 23 so perfect for a boat ride!
I also tried Hungarian Goulash today. I like soup so I thought it was good. It's a meaty soup with little bits of pasta, and root vegetables and paprika base broth. It made for a good lunch.
Oh and I forgot to mention the other day that I tried Palinka. It's like the national liqueur. At the restaurant Ben took me to on Sunday night they gave us one each on the house. I had the plum flavoured one. It was very strong & sweet. I would not order by choice, but it wasn't bad.
I walked a long time today and a long way, my feet are a bit sore and legs a bit stiff. The city is very pedestrian friendly and all the buildings are interesting & lovely so generally I don't mind the walking. And it's a good thing since the public transportation is not at all stroller friendly.
The number of people who speak English here surprised me. Most restaurants have English menus and quite a few people speak English very well. And even those who don't are very friendly and happy to go find someone who can speak English to help you.
I hope tomorrow to do a bus tour of the city. One of those hop on hop off ones, I bought my ticket today when I purchased the river cruise. The person assured me I could take the stroller.... but I am a bit concerned so fingers crossed its not a problem.
I also saw that you can take tours of the opera house too, and they include a mini performance. I think that would be good but again issues with the stroller and I would maybe like to go to the Terror Museum, it seems like they are wheelchair accessible so I think it's okay to take the stroller? It's about the history of the different cruel occupations/rulers the country has had to endure anyways it's supposed to be good and very interesting and me enjoying history as I do....
And I just heard from Laarni (Demetris wife ) that St Stephens Basilica is amazing. She and her kids went there today. But she warned me not to take the stroller...
Evelyn is so big now it would be tough to do the baby carrier for the walk there, tour and walk back.... so we'll have to see.... I know Ben wants to go and see it but with this weekend being Easter I am not sure it's a good time to visit as a tourist.
Apparently tomorrow is the day some cleaning company comes and does the apartment and changes the towels etc... Ben has no idea what time they come at so this could be interesting..... They only come once a week, I guess they are employed by the owner of the apartment. The complex seems to be full of international guests who are here short term for various work reasons of one another.
Okay I have to give Evelyn a bath and ready for bed. Hopes she sleeps tonight so tomorrow can be another good day of sightseeing.

Happy Birthday Baby
So yesterday Evelyn turned 1! So hard to believe that a whole year has come and gone. So many things have happened to our family this year, both good and bad. I hope this upcoming year will be slightly less eventful to be honest.
Since Evelyn and I slept during the day and didn't leave the apartment until 4pm our day was not very exciting. Evelyn was up ALL night and we both only fell asleep midmorning.... I say again time zone changes with a 1 year baby SUCK. Don't do them if at possible.
Anyways so we went out for a little walk around the neighbourhood and picked up a few things and came home to get ready for dinner.
We went to a nice Italian place with Demetri, his wife and kids. It was also his sons 7th birthday. So we celebrated both birthdays. It was nice. After dinner we came home and Evelyn opened a couple little gifts I got her, then had a bath to get rid of the food in her hair and all over, and hopefully to use up some of that engery so we would sleep at night!
Just after midnight we all went to bed and except for a 4am opps (Evelyn fell out of bed) but I caught her before she hit her head and a one bottle feed she slept the rest of the night.
Ben had to be at work today for 10am which means he won't be home until 11pm or later. They are doing some night time shooting. So I am on my own for whole day and dinner. At least the sun is shinning and it says its going to be 21 degrees outside.

Sunday by the River
So after a sleep in by all (another rough nite with Evelyn) Basically she is keeping to her own time zone and I guess now with only a week left before we head home it seems pointless to change it. Apparently Budapest is nice at night I guess I should get out there and do that.
We walked down by the river for a while, that was nice. a bit windy and cool though. I was really hopeing for some weather warmer I didn't enough warm clothes for myself at all!
Last night a girl Ben works with from Toronto came over to watch Evelyn so we could go to dinner. We went to a place called Mokka it is rated with 2 Michelin Stars. Was very good, from the service, to the food and the wine!
Well today is Evelyn's birthday. I am exhausted after being up all night with her from 1:45am onward I was up playing with her. I finally slept from 9-3pm today when Evelyn slept.
Well I better head out to grab some groceries before the shops all close!

I'm looking for sleep and sanity
So when the kettle blew up it blew the breaker and fried an electrical outlet. (I didn't discover this until Ben came home) but luckily it did not wreck anything of ours that was plugged into that outlet.
We went out for dinner.Being a Sat night with a baby and no reservations and it was 9:30 before we were on the street walking to dinner made it a bit tricky to find a place. We finally found a place, it seemed quiet enough and looked half full.
Turns out the kitchen was havin issues keeping up with the orders and dinner took an hour to come out once we finally ordered. It was good when it made it to the table though. And then at 11pm on the dot the MAGIC DISCO BALL came down and it turned into a dance club. We had finished eating, I had wanted dessert but we were out of time :( so we packed up and paid and in the time it took us to do that the place was suddenly PACKED. We came home and Ben fell into Bed and was asleep instantly. I changed and fed Evelyn took her to bed too. Just after midnight and all of us were sleeping and happy.
UNTIL 4AM
Evelyn wakes up and is cranky! I get her a bottle and try to get her back down to sleep. But she wakes up even more and decides to play. And who better to play with than the strange man in the bed with the shaggy brown hair. I'm sure Ben LOVED waking up to that ;) Evelyn was laughing and cooing and making all kinds of happy sounds. she played on the bed bothering one of us (although mostly Ben) for about an hour before snuggling into me and going back to sleep. I started this blog at 5:30 and it's now 6am. The sun is up and trying to peak through clouds.
Ben apparently has us going someplace nice for dinner tonight and a girl he works with is going to look after Evelyn for us. I'm looking forward to it.
hmmmm I finally feel a bit sleepy... maybe I can go back to bed for a bit. gah the horrible bed. this is another reason I am not sleeping well. You can feel every spring and the wooden slats and the blankets are yucky :(
ok sleep time.... wish me luck

Jetlag Day
Today was not a great day and that was because last night was a rough night. I feel partly sorry for Ben because he had to go to work today after not getting much sleep and what sleep was had by him I think wasn't great. But on the other hand I go through nights like that all the time.
Basically it's the time zone change that was the big thing that caused last nights issues. Evelyn was wide awake and playing, or poking, or kicking or hair pulling or crying. I had to get up with her and finally play with her from 2am to 5am. but there was still lots of crying and crankiness.
And in the middle of everything last night I was trying to lay down with Evelyn on the couch and she got mad and threw herself off the couch and hit her face on the coffee table. Lucky no bruises or scratches this morning.
We finally both fell asleep in the morning around 8am and slept until 2pm. We ate, got dressed and went for a walk. Unfortunately today was a grey cold day :( and most of the shops were already closed at 4pm! So it wasn't that great for a walk or shopping. But I stayed out for an hour. Came back fed Evelyn again and let her have a tiny nap (an hour) and then I showered, ran the dishwasher and did a load of laundry. The laundry is now hanging around the apt drying.... I miss having a dryer, or really even a sunny place to hang things. Yes we have a small balcony but we are on the 5th floor and its windy and well I'd rather not loose my clothes.
As it turns out I did not bring enough warm clothes I think. Apparently next week is going to be warmer/sunnier I hope so.
Oh I was going to make some tea but the kettle just blew up. Seriously blue sparks everywhere........
I am looking forward to Ben having the day off tomorrow. It really sucked that he had to work today.
Anyways he is home now. Gotta go have dinner!

Blogging in Budapest!
I left my house for the airport at 2pm and our plane took off pretty much on time from Canada at 5:30pm on Wednesday April 13th. We are here until Tuesday April 26th. Ben is currently filming a movie called 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves. In May the production will be returning to England to film and we were join for a few weeks. But for right now we are having a little visit. So adventures in England is currently Adventures in Budapest.
Our 7 hour flight to Frankfurt was uneventful. Thankfully Evelyn fell asleep before the wheels of the planes had even left the runway and slept the whole first 2 hours of the flight. This allowed me to watch a movie and eat my dinner without interruption. Evelyn then woke up and played a little and she ate and then went back to sleep for the last 90 mins of the flight including all the descent. At 1am 'ish we had to get off our plane. (German time was now 6 hours ahead the same time zone as Budapest) and go through security and passport control in Germany and board a tiny little HORRIBLE airplane bound for Budapest that whole experience and going down MANY MANY flights of stairs being exhausted with a little cranky person who wants to be sleeping.... UGG.... FInally loaded on the plane and both Evelyn fell asleep right away did not wake up until the plane was bouncing along the runway.
In Budapest we collected our baggage and didn't have to go any passport control (?) we just walked out and there was our driver waiting for us with a sign. He helped load all our bags and drove us to our apartment. I will take photos of our apartment today and our immediate surroundings and post them later.
We got into the apartment I drank some juice and gave Evelyn a bottle and we fell into bed for a rough 3 hour nap. It was early afternoon when we got to the apartment and around 6pm when we woke up got up, I fed Evelyn some cereal & another bottle and unpacked alittle.
Ben came home around 7:30pm from work and we went out at 8:30 pm for Italian food and I had some really good pizza. After traveling for almost 24 hours with an almost 1 year old (from the time we left our house until we got to our apt in Budapest) pizza and wine was exactly what I needed. We came home I fed Evelyn some mixed fruit & veggies and then gave her a bath and a bottle and we all went to bed around 11:30pm.
Right now it is 6:30am in Budapest. I have been awake since 5am. I have showered and made tea and had leftover pizza for breakfast. And I am now totally unpacked into the apartment.
Today is just about exploring the immediate neighborhood, finding the pharmacy, corner store and that sort of stuff. The weather here is cold and rainy today about 10 degrees. But looks sunny and in the high teens beginning on Sunday.
Okay that's it for now!
